The Set Up: Lord Christopher Eden likes to keep people at arms length so no one discovers that he is a “man of unusual make.” But he’s learned that his late father’s will demands he finds a wife or lose his inheritance. Reluctantly, he hires a valet, James Harding, to accompany him to London for the season. James is quiet and exceedingly professional, and while the two clash at first, they uncover secrets about each other that prove they are more alike than they are different.

This book was a delight and just what I needed! A balm for the soul. Everything sucks right now but this book does not!!

I fell in love with Christopher and James right away. Their relationship was TENDER and full of trust and mutual respect. It had a wonderful balance of tension and longing and heartfelt moments so their slow burn romance felt so earned and satisfying.

The book had a light tone but it never shied away from deeper themes; There’s a lot here on identity, trauma, and self-acceptance. I loved the historical setting and for a first foray into historical romance, I think TJ Alexander did a great job! I hope they write more in the genre because this one was great.

What would have made this book a 5-star read for me: James POV chapters. I think adding his perspective into the story would have added a lot.

If you love historical romance, you should definitely pick this one up! Thank you to Vintage for the gifted copy!
