The Set Up: In this poetry collection, Amanda C. Gorman explores grief, resilience, social justice, and hope. Featuring her poem The Hill We Climb, performed at Joe Biden’s inauguration, Gorman reflects on the isolation of the Covid-19 pandemic and the human experience.
I really enjoyed this poetry collection. It was a strange feeling, reading about the pandemic now that we’re so far removed from the days of social distancing and quarantine. Not all of the historical parts landed with me necessarily, but this is a collection about resilience, hope, and perseverance.
Her poem The Hill We Climb hit me hard, reading it now at the start of the second DJT administration. I’ll definitely be trying to pull positivity from it over the next four years.
