The Set Up: Eligible is a modern day retelling of Pride & Prejudice. Liz and Jane are living successful lives in NYC but return to their childhood home after their father’s health scare. Over the summer, Liz tries to help in all the ways she can; helping her younger sisters jump start their own lives, address their crumbling home, and work through her mother’s obvious shopping addiction. Liz and Jane meet Chip Bingley, a new doctor in town and a former reality TV bachelor, who in turn introduces them to his best friend and neurosurgeon, Fitzwilliam Darcy.

A modern Pride and Prejudice with a sharp wit, messy family drama, reality TV, and (randomly) set in Ohio? Yes please and thank you! This hooked me in right from the start.

This book took the Bennet’s family and dropped them into today’s world perfectly. I loved who every character was in this version, even when I hated them. Make sense? Of course I loved Liz and Darcy, found myself eye-rolling most of her sisters, and enjoyed the the twists of some of the other characters like Jasper Wick and Kathy de Bourgh.

The chapters were short, sometimes less than a page, which kept me turning pages and made the book absolutely fly by.

Over all this was clever, fun, and made me an instant fan of the author. If you’re a sucker for Liz and Darcy, definitely check this one out.
