Stone Blind by Natalie Haynes

The Set Up: After Medusa is assaulted by Poseidon in a temple built for Athene, the goddess punishes Medusa, rather than Poseidon. Medusa has been cursed with a head of snakes and a deadly gaze that turns living things to stone. Isolated and feared, Medusa resigns herself to solitude—until Perseus embarks on a quest for her head.
This was a 3-star read for me, but it wasn’t at all what I was expecting. I re-read the marketing copy and I think it’s pretty misleading. This was about Medusa, but also not about Medusa?
I loved that at its core a female rage book, but I wanted more of Medusa. It was interesting to read about a variety of the mythological figures, but the shifting POVs and structure made it pretty hard to follow. I was glad there was a list of characters at the beginning, because I did a lot of flipping back and forth to remember who was who.
The second half of the story really picked up, and I did appreciate the way all of the stories wove together, but at the end of the day this didn’t land for me.
