The Set Up: Sam meets Xavier when she brings her new kitten to his veterinary clinic. The two have an instant connection and on one memorable date—the night before Sam is moving across the country to help take care of her mom, who has dementia.

This book didn’t knock Just for the Summer out of first place for me, but it was still everything I’ve come to love and expect out of a book from Abby Jimenez.

There was so much emotion and tension in this book that it hooked me right from the start. Xavier completely stole the show for me. I loved how steady and reliable he was. There was definitely an “intalove-ish” element here, but it felt valid.

What I *loved* was the lack of a third-act breakup!! Thank you, Abby, for sparing us the unnecessary angst! There was already so much tension—a breaking point felt inevitable—that the story didn’t need to test their relationship at the very end. There were so many obstacles in between Xavier and Sam that I really had no idea how things were going to work out.

Another winner from Abby Jimenez!!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced ebook!
